“Happiness comes to those who delight in the Law of God and meditate on it day and night. They’re like trees planted by flowing water — they bear fruit in every season, and their leaves never wither: everything they do will prosper. Psalm 1:2-3”—Lectio, 24 February 2011
“Never again will I curse the earth because of humankind, since the evil their hearts contrive begins from infancy. Never again will I strike down every living thing as I have done.
Genesis 8:21”—Lectio, 16 February 2011
“He went on, “It is what comes out of us that makes us unclean. For it is from within — from our hearts — that evil intentions emerge: promiscuity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, obscenity, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All of these evils come from within and make us impure.”
Mark 7:23”—Lectio, 9 February 2011
If you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness and your shadows will become like noon. Isaiah 58:10
My friend Michelle, a pastor in NY State, posted this on Facebook:
The NFL pays for 150 rings to the Superbowl winners, at roughly $5,000 apiece—add that to the $85.5 million spent on SuperBowl tickets, plus the $10.1 billion spent by fans at home for snacks and parties and merchandise. According to the Advent Conspiracy (remember Advent?), $10 billion will solve world water problems. Just sayin’.
I’m posting this as I’m getting ready to head to the grocery store to buy some snacks for the game later. First, though, I think I’ll make a donation to charity:water. Will you join me?
“Now, O God, you can dismiss your servant in peace, just as you promised;
because my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared for all the peoples to see —
a light of revelation to the Gentiles
and the glory of your people Israel”—
